How You Can Take Care Of Your Hardwood Flooring Surfaces

September 2nd, 2010 Posted in Interior Design and Decorating

If you have decided to change your flooring and have settled upon real wood flooring then you have made a excellent decision, but your wood floors will need to be looked after.  Flooring that is wood is made using mature trees, that is cut down, treated and specially finished.  Maintaing hardwood floors can be tricky because they scratch easy and also absorb moisture.

Leaving a puddle of wateroin your wood floors would not be a great idea.  The cracks in between the hard wood will absorb the moisture and swell.  If water happens to be spilt in even a small spot and sits it can still be seen.  If any liquid is spilled on the floor you need to soak up the fluid right away.  When you clean your hardwood floor you can use a damp mop but only damp.  There are also floor cleaners that are specially formulted for hard wood floors that you could use.  Whatever you choose you must not use anything but a damp mop.

Another thing that can happen to real wood floors are dents and scratches.  Women wearing high heels are one of the worse things that your hard wood floors can endure. Everything you do from moving furniture to allowing your dog to roam in the house will affect your hardwood floors.

Over time any furniture legs can dent or scratch the floors.  It is a great home decorating idea to add some floral round rugs under your furniture or there are also felts available that go directly under the furniture legs.  You may also decide to decorate with round rugs in those highly traveled areas of your home like in front of the lounge.

There are some homeowners that feel that the dents and scratches give their real wood floors personality and that they tell the story of a loved home.  If you have a lot of scratches and dents then it is an alternative to have your wood floors refinished.  If you have your hardwood floors refinished every decade or so and keep on top of protecting your hardwood floors, they will look the best.
