Discover Your Comfort In Area Rugs
March 13th, 2010 Posted in Interior Design and DecoratingThe purposes of area rugs are many. They of course can be used to warm one’s feet. But they can also be used to cover up a carpet stain, add a fresh new look to an area, or add that one last special touch to a room. They come in many shapes, from the traditional rectangle to unique shapes like crescent moons. Area rugs also have varying fabrics, colors, styles, and sizes. Mostly, rugs bring a special touch to a room.
So how do you choose the right rug for your living space? Of course, you can just go to the store and pick up a rug that you find appealing. But if you are looking for a more “professional” touch, there are a few things to keep in mind.
When looking for a rug, it is beneficial to decide whether or not you want it to be the room’s focus or not. If you do, you can choose one with a large oval design in the center. If you don’t, a busier pattern might work for you.
A lighter and simpler-patterned rug works well for rooms that already have a distinctive decorative pattern. It also makes the room seem bigger. Otherwise the room might seem too “loud.”
For those who don’t like cleaning very much, a more ornate, darker pattern is a good idea. If someone spills a drink on a dark and detailed rug, it will probably not need to be scrubbed too hard. A more ornate pattern also makes the space look cozier.
For a room, the color of a rug can be important. If the rug matches the color scheme, it will seem more incorporated into the style of the area. Not every color must match, but at least one should coordinate.
Finally, area rugs can overpower a room or clash with each other. To avoid this, try to use rugs of different sizes if you want more than one, and match the size of the rug with the size of other furnishings.
