Budget Kitchen Remodeling - Step by Step

February 25th, 2008 Posted in Budget Kitchen Remodeling

Although many homeowners dream of remodeling their kitchen as well as the rest of the house, the lack of finance often puts a halt to such a major project. There are, however, so many ways to give a new look to probably the busiest room of the whole house by using a few budget kitchen remodeling ideas. To enable you to make a start on your kitchen, take a good long look at what you consider to be wrong with the current setting and bring some ideas to mind as to how to improve it.

Clearly, the first step of the process is to work out how much money you can allow for the kitchen update and then apportion that sum to the areas which need attention the most. If it works out that the whole modernization cannot be carried out in one go, doing the jobs one step at a time, whilst remembering to keep within your budget is the best avenue to go down. There may be parts of the update which require priority in order to put an end to an oncoming major problem. It makes sense to realize that painting a room will not put right that leaking pipe, which is dripping away daily under the worktop. This should, of course, take priority over the painting job.

A Coat of Paint Can Be Just the Job

Within your budget, brand new kitchen cabinets may not be an option. However, the doors on your existing cabinets come off quite easily and you can sand them down, apply a coat of paint in a different color or even stain them to give them a new lease of life. When you have the doors temporarily off the cabinets, you could fix new knobs or handles on them, to give a totally new look. Remember before putting the doors back on again, to paint the strip of wood between the doors so it matches up with your new color scheme.

A fresh coat of paint on the walls always makes a kitchen take on a new and clean look. Before you begin painting, remove everything from the walls, including nails and screws and fill any holes where necessary. Once the filler has dried, sand it down to make it smooth and take a good look around at the walls from different angles to make sure it is prepared properly and ready for painting. You need to do this so that any imperfect areas do not show through the paint, making it obvious that your kitchen remodeling was carried out on a tight budget.

Probably the most important part of your kitchen remodeling project is to make clear plans before you start, even if this means setting a date for your kitchen remodeling in the future as opposed to starting straight away. Doing things in this way will help, for example, if you have seen some new kitchen cabinets in a sale. You can buy them and store them until you have saved up the next amount of money required to fit them.

Taking things one step at a time will eventually take your kitchen remodeling to a whole new dimension.
